The main advice to the modern 18-year-old Belarusian at a meeting with students and at their request was formulated by a member of the Standing Commission of the Council of the Republic on International Affairs and National Security, head of the main department of ideological work and youth affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee Alexander Lukyanov, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports with reference to the press service of the BNTU Media Center.

The dialogue platform “Historical Memory and Patriotism as the Basis of National Unity” supplemented the program of events of the information and educational project “Student Knowledge” in BNTU.
Act of justice
One of the key topics of the meeting was the Day of National Unity. Lukyanov dwelled in detail on the events of 1939, stressing that for the Belarusian people it was the most important act of restoring justice. Since 1921, a strict policy of suppressing national identity has been implemented in Western Belarus: Belarusian schools were closed and people were forbidden to speak their native language. The darkest symbol of those years was the Berez-Kartuzskaya concentration camp, a place of severe trials for many Belarusians.

- This was a real ethnocide of the Belarusian people, when people were persecuted and killed simply for wanting to speak their native language and freely practice their faith. The apogee of this cruel policy was the Berez-Kartuzskaya concentration camp, specially created to suppress any dissent. There, up to 10,000 of our compatriots went through torture, severe trials and death. Now this place is a memorial complex, and I strongly advise everyone to visit it to realize the scale of those events and honor the memory, Lukyanov said.

Security in the information environment
We also talked about modern challenges. In particular, the guest drew attention to the problem of information security. The media sometimes hear biased and distorted assessments of the situation in Belarus, often from those who have no real idea of life here. Therefore, young people who have to start families and build a career in their native land, it is important to be able to think critically and analyze information.

Turning ideas into reality
Answering questions, Lukyanov advised young people to act and not be afraid of mistakes, because it is much more insulting to miss a chance, not to dare to ask a question or not to take the initiative.
At the request of the participants of the meeting, he also described patriotism with three verbs: “believe”, “act” and “unite”. A member of the Council of the Republic explained that faith in one’s own business does not give one any doubt, constant development turns ideas into reality, and teamwork helps to overcome any obstacles.

Value of the informal approach
Lukyanov called the project “Student Knowledge” at BNTU an example for many universities not only in Minsk, but also throughout the country.
- We discussed the most important topics. And I watched as the guys stopped, who just passed by, ran from lecture to lecture. This is the value of an informal approach, the guest said. The theme of the Unified Information Day is “Day of National Unity as a Factor of Our National Pride”. It is very important that every student understands that today the task is not just to get a basic minimum, pass a session and collect a diploma - you need to realize what a great historical foundation is the education, science and production of our country.

The Head of the Main Department of Ideological Work and Youth Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee also noted that through such dialogue platforms, the university leadership brilliantly manages to combine student potential and knowledge of experts, set a strategic benchmark - ensuring the unity of the country through the continuity of generations.
