From January to October 2026, specialists confiscated more than 184,000 liters of illegal glass washing liquid, and more than 216,000 liters were arrested. This was reported by MK in Tula in the press service of the territorial management of Rospotrebnadzor, warning motorists about the danger of low-quality products.
In particular, the attention of tulyaks drew to the fact that winter glass washing is produced on the basis of alcohols with the addition of flavors, dyes and special substances. Legal products use isopropyl alcohol, which has a sharp smell resembling acetone. However, even such a liquid requires Tula drivers to handle carefully and is intended exclusively for car windows.
Of particular danger is illegal glass washing with methanol. This toxic alcohol is banned in Russia for the production of such products. Its vapors and skin contact can cause Tula motorists and passengers poisoning, damage to the nervous system and organs of vision. In severe cases, the consequences lead to blindness and death.
At the same time, it is impossible to determine the safety of the liquid by smell. A sharp aroma does not guarantee the presence of dangerous substances, and the absence of an unpleasant odor does not confirm the quality of the product, the sanitary doctors of the Tula region pay attention.
Rospotrebnadzor recalls that under the law “On Protection of Consumer Rights”, goods must be safe when used for their intended purpose. Buyers are also required to provide reliable information about the product and its manufacturer.
For the information of motorists..
