On the Day of National Unity, November 4, a cross procession will be held along the streets of Ulyanovsk with the Zhadov Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. Believers will be able to take part in the festive divine service and procession from the Resurrection-German Church to the Savior-Voznesensky Cathedral.
Festive events will begin at 9:00 with the Divine Liturgy in the Resurrection-German Church. The service will be headed by Metropolitan Longin of Simbirsk and Novospasska.
After the completion of the Liturgy, approximately at 11:00, the participants of the procession will go to the Savior-Voznesensky Cathedral. During the procession, believers will carry the Zhadov Kazan Icon of the Mother of God - one of the revered Orthodox shrines of the Simbirsk land.
In the Cathedral before the image there will be a moleben of the Mother of God, which will complete the festive procession.
As reported in the Simbirsk diocese, the procession is organized with the blessing of Metropolitan Longin.
The date was not chosen by chance. On November 4, Russia celebrates the Day of National Unity, and Orthodox believers celebrate the Day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. These events are historically connected with the liberation of Moscow from the Polish invaders in 1612.
For Ulyanovsk Orthodox believers, the upcoming procession will be an opportunity to take part in common prayer and honor one of the main shrines of the region.
