Autumn is a great time to take care of the future of the garden. While nature slows down the rhythm, you can replenish the collection of shrubs. The easiest and most reliable way is to multiply them with wood cuttings. How to prepare and preserve cuttings of currants, hydrangeas and other crops, so that in the spring they give strong roots? This was told by the gardener Dmitry Kastritsky.
From berry crops in autumn, you can multiply all types of currants. It's a red, black, white currants. You can also try to reproduce gooseberry, honeysuckle and blackberries.
For planting, we need young shoots - they are smooth, without lateral branches and have a light color of the bark. These shoots were formed during the current season, and we will cut cuttings from them.
There are certain rules: the thickness of the cutting should be no thinner than a pencil, since thin cuttings usually take root poorly. If there are still leaves on the shoots, they need to be removed - they are no longer needed, because good kidneys have formed. Then from these whips and shoots we cut the cuttings themselves.
The length of the cutting for planting should be 20-30 centimeters. Under the kidney, we make an oblique cut, and above the kidney, a straight cut. This is necessary in order not to confuse the top and bottom of the cutting during landing.
Cuttings are planted at a slope of 45 degrees, placing them from north to south. This is necessary in order to form a lush, uniform crown. If you plant the opposite, from south to north, the bushes will grow lopsided. Also, when planting, we deepen almost the entire cutting, leaving only 1-2 buds above the soil surface. With such a planting, a powerful root system is formed, and in the future many young shoots grow.
Next season in the spring, as soon as the sun warms, the cuttings will begin to take root. By next autumn, you will get young bushes that can be planted in a permanent place. Thus, a large amount of planting material can be obtained.
