From the dark room to MRI: the Ministry of Health told about the evolution of radiology in the Novgorod regional hospital

Today Russia celebrates the professional holiday of radiologists. In the Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital, the Department of Radiology, one of the largest, employs more than 30 specialists, said Health Minister Valery Yakovlev.

At the disposal of doctors – a wide range of equipment: classical X-ray machines, densitometry units, as well as complexes of computer and magnetic resonance imaging. This set of techniques allows you to quickly and accurately diagnose both emergency and planned cases.

According to the head of the department, radiologist Anna Ekimova, the service works around the clock. This is important for emergency care - for example, patients after an accident or with cerebral circulation disorders.

According to Anna Yurievna, the specificity of the radiologist’s work is in a huge variety of clinical cases. Today, a specialist can participate in the diagnosis of a therapeutic patient, and after a few minutes help in making decisions in an emergency situation. It is this diversity and sense of importance of their work that support a keen interest in the profession among experienced doctors.

A special contribution to the development of the department is made by a team with long experience. For example, radiologist Valentin Lazarev devoted 50 years to the profession, of which more than 30 years he works in the Novgorod Design Bureau. Valentin Nikolaevich recalls that at the beginning of his career, radiologists had to spend a significant part of the working day in a dark room, manually studying the pictures.

Modern technology has radically changed the process of diagnosis: doctors see more details, which means they can quickly and accurately identify pathologies. Thanks to this, it is possible to maintain health every day, and often save the lives of patients.
