Dad can do anything: Pskovis celebrate Father's Day

Today, October 18, the country honors the main defenders, breadwinners and just the best friends of their children. Father’s Day in Russia is a young holiday (officially it was approved only a few years ago), but it is truly popular. And the Pskov popes are no exception.

The holiday has no fixed date and falls on the third Sunday of October. This year it's the 18th. And although in the Labor Code it is not listed as a day off, there is nothing to complain about: the celebration already falls on a legal day of rest, so there is time to congratulate the head of the family.

The roots of the holiday go back to the United States of the early XX century, where a certain Sonora Smart Dodd decided to honor the memory of her single father. But in Russia they listened to their fathers earlier than in Moscow! For example, in Yakutia, their Father's Day was established in 1999, and in the Vologda region - at the beginning of the zero.

The path to federal status was not quick: the idea was discussed since 2015, lobbied by ombudsmen and the Councils of Fathers, and only in October 2021, Vladimir Putin signed the corresponding decree. The goal is simple and important: to emphasize that parenting is teamwork, where the role of the pope is indispensable.

There are no strict traditions yet, and that’s great. It is not necessary to give another socks or foam for shaving. The best gift is attention: a joint walk along the embankment of the Great, fishing on the Pskov Lake, watching hockey or just a warm family dinner with drays. And in schools and kindergartens today will definitely be thundering contests "The Strongest Dad".
