In the spring, you want to come to the country for warmth, and not repair burst pipes and fix leaks. Therefore, before a long departure, it is worth spending time preparing the house and the plot. Especially if there is no heating in winter.

The first step is to get rid of water, including where it is easy to forget about. Close the feed and prepare for frost pipes, storage tanks, boiler, pumps and watering system. Do not forget about the toilet bowl, filters, showers and street faucets: the remaining water when frozen can damage the equipment. One open tap is often not enough - the order of draining and the need for purging depend on the device of the system. Boiler before the drain, de-energize and let the water cool.

Washing and dishwashing machines, if any, prepare for the winter according to the manufacturer's instructions: water can remain in pumps and internal channels. Separate attention requires siphons and toilet – just empty the tank is not enough to protect all plumbing.

Empty the hoses, dry them and remove them. For pumps and irrigation automation, check the permissible storage temperature: some devices need an ice-free room even after draining water.

Examine the roof: are there any damaged areas, traces of leaks on the ceiling and dampness in the attic. A small defect is better to eliminate in the fall, until the water and frost increase the scale of repairs. Clean the gutters and gutters from the leaves, check if the water is freely leaving the house. To inspect the high roof and complex works it is safer to invite a specialist.

Choose a dry day, ventilate the rooms, dry bedding, mattresses and clothes. Do not pack wet things in polyethylene: by spring you can get the smell of mustyness and mold. Check windows and doors, eliminate leaks and gaps through which precipitation blows. At the same time, do not glue the provided ventilation holes: a closed house needs air exchange.

Take out cereals, flour, pasta, animal feed and other edibles. Wash the cupboards, remove the crumbs and take out the trash. Freeze the refrigerator, wash it, wipe it dry and leave the door ajar. Inspect the places of pipe insertion, the space under the sink and the gaps at the floor. Make the holes available to rodents with durable materials - one mounting foam may not be enough.

If in winter power supply is not required, turn off the introductory machine and remove the plugs from the sockets. Shut off the gas. Before leaving, make sure that the fire in the furnace is completely extinguished and there are no smoldering coals left. If the house remains working heating, alarm or other equipment, check in advance their readiness for long-term work without the owners. Water heating requires a separate solution: the order of conservation depends on the boiler, pipes and coolant. It is not necessary to arbitrarily merge the system or pour car antifreeze into it.

Remove garden furniture, removable awnings, textiles and anything that the wind can carry away. Clean and dry the tools, prepare the garden equipment for storage according to the instructions. Remove dry grass and clusters of leaves near buildings; suitable plant residues can be sent to compost.

From the greenhouse, remove the garter and plant residues, clean the surfaces, check the fastenings. Install supports for the winter, if it is provided by the design. It is better to shelter plants taking into account the weather and the needs of a particular culture: too early a dense shelter can lead to excretion.

Before leaving, check the windows, doors and outbuildings, remove valuables. Picture the position of the cranes and machines, write down what is turned off and what will need to be turned on in the spring. Leave your room to neighbors who visit the site in winter, and ask them to report if they notice damage to the house after bad weather.
