The first 72 hours. Bryansk Red Cross told how emergency assistance is arranged

October 13 is International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. The Bryansk branch of the Russian Red Cross greets him with unceremonial words: the speed of assistance in a crisis is determined by how seriously they prepared for it in advance.

The organization operates in two phases. The first covers 72 hours after the start of an emergency – the most acute time when people need food, water and warm things immediately. Since 2024, the Emergency Response Fund has been operating for this purpose: it allows you to start assistance without waiting for donations. The second stage is psychosocial support and targeted work with families. Since 2021, about two million people have received assistance in this format.

“Readiness for floods and man-made accidents is systemic,” said Dmitry Kornilov, a member of the Presidium of the Bryansk branch of the Russian Red Cross. “We cooperate with authorities, rescue services and municipalities, train volunteers and form reserves in advance. In an emergency, there is no time to prepare.”
