Petrozavodsk said goodbye to the famous photographer Vasily Petukhov
In the mourning hall on the Highway came family and close friends, colleagues-journalists, photo artists, musicians, representatives of the creative intelligentsia and just citizens

In the mourning hall on the Highway came family and close friends, colleagues-journalists, photo artists, musicians, representatives of the creative intelligentsia and just citizens. People carried flowers with tears in their eyes. They were united by love, gratitude and deep respect for Vasily, and for himself, a bright, kind, very modest man, and for his work of life.
Basil saw Karelia as it is: without embellishment, retouching and editing. Happy faces of residents of the republic, big holidays and quiet everyday life, children's smiles, meetings, parting, work, love, memory, social - all this remained in his photos.
Before leaving, he gave people his legacy - a large photo archive, which was replenished as long as he had enough strength. It's not just pictures. It's a living story and decades seen through his eyes. This is the pulse of time, in unison with which the shutter of his camera clicked. The way we lived the last half century in the lens of a photographer.
Vasily Petukhov 09.04.1960-22.10.2026 Photo archive.
His work will remain with us, in the families, archives, exhibitions and hearts of those who knew him personally.
Basil was real. And now that present is much less.
Funeral and farewell were held in Petrozavodsk. Basil was buried in Wilga.
His memory is good.
May the earth be in peace.
