Surgeons have restored the 88-year-old woman the ability to walk
A real medical triumph took place in the Volga Hospital No. 1 named after S. Z. Fischer, where doctors were able to put on her feet a patient who, it would seem, could not count on it.

According to the health Committee for the Volgograd region, 88-year-old woman sought help with critical ischemia of the lower extremities. Because of the unbearable pain, she was chained to the place, and a bouquet of concomitant diseases made any classic abdominal surgery deadly.
The way out of the impasse was found by vascular surgeons Sergey Sobolev and Fedor Zharkin of the Volga hospital No. 1 named after S. Z. Fischer. They used an advanced minimally invasive technique that did not require general anesthesia. Instead of large-scale incisions, doctors conducted a jewelry reconstruction of the vessels and installed a special self-opening stent that instantly returned normal blood flow to the patient’s legs.
Just a week after discharge, the elderly woman came to the control examination on her own, without crutches.
This case once again proves that even in old age, modern endovascular surgery is able to work wonders, returning people to an active life. Such successes are directly related to the large-scale modernization of regional health care, which is overseen by Governor Andrei Bocharov as part of the national project “Long and active life”.
