Arrived in Kemerovo citizen was convicted of illegal import of rare corals from Vietnam

Representatives of the Siberian Customs Administration said that during the inspection of the hand luggage of one of the passengers of the Novokuznetsk airport, valuable corals were found. This citizen arrived on a flight from Da Nang. His luggage caught the attention of customs officers during a spot check.

The man was found to be carrying 111 grams of coral. A local resident explained that he found them on the coast and decided to pick them up, not being aware of the need to obtain special permits for their export.

The press service of the Siberian Customs informed: The results of the examination confirmed that the seized items, which the man called “sea souvenirs”, are madrepore corals. These species are listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Two administrative proceedings were initiated against the violator.
