A bird with a unique voice lives in the Kostroma region
Among the geese, the squirrel is a real master of disguise

Among the geese, the squirrel is a real master of disguise. Externally, it is almost indistinguishable from the usual white-headed goose, but there are three details: it is smaller, darker with plumage and wears a bright yellow “ring” around the eyes.
However, the main trump card of this bird is not the appearance, but the voice. Unlike the groaning of its relatives, the squealer emits a high, sharp squeal. It was this unique sound, which neither man nor predator can replicate, that gave the species its name.
Scientists note in these birds a rare ability for birds - individual recognition of relatives by the timbre of a cry. This is their real superpower, allowing you to keep the flock in poor visibility.
Once the puscule nested from Norway to Chukotka, but now the area has broken up into tiny pockets. In the Kostroma region it is a rare flying species. Birds are observed on large waterways: in the floodplains of the Kostroma and Unzha rivers, in the lake part of the lowland and on the Kostroma spill. In different years, they were recorded on Unzha in the Kologrivsky district and on the Gorky reservoir.
Due to a sharp decrease in the number of species listed in the Red Books of Russia and the Kostroma region.
