Furious deceivers with bird voices came out to the residents of the Leningrad region

In the Leningrad region, raccoon dogs are increasingly close to people. Despite its harmless appearance, it is dangerous to approach wild animals due to the risk of contracting various diseases, including rabies. This was told by biologist Pavel Glazkov in his project “Each creature pair”.

According to the expert, raccoon dogs, which are also called Ussuri foxes, appeared in the Leningrad region in 1936. They were specially imported from the Far East as a valuable commercial species. The animals have successfully taken root, and now their number in the region is about five thousand individuals. They also meet in St. Petersburg.

The peculiarity of these animals lies in their family structure. Raccoon dogs form pairs in the autumn, and the search for a partner does without fierce fights. The animals winter together, and in the spring they begin to breed. Males actively participate in the upbringing and feeding of offspring.

Another unusual feature of raccoon dogs is the ability to make subtle, complaining sounds that resemble bird voices. In Japan, animals are called “bird dogs.”.

The biologist stressed that when meeting a raccoon dog, you should not try to pet or feed it. Even an outwardly calm animal can pose a danger to humans.
