Five years of warnings: in Ulyanovsk announced the death of Marishkin spring
In Ulyanovsk, public activists reported a serious deterioration in the condition of the Marishkin spring, located in a specially protected natural area

In Ulyanovsk, public activists reported a serious deterioration in the condition of the Marishkin Spring, located in a specially protected natural area. After an inspection on October 21, members of the public linked what was happening to construction nearby. Now they intend to apply to the regional Ministry of Natural Resources and the environmental prosecutor's office.
The state of the natural object was told by adviser to the governor of the Ulyanovsk region, member of the regional Public Chamber Lev Levitas. According to him, the participants of the public inspection inspected the territory of the Marishkin spring and assessed the possible consequences of construction work carried out nearby.
Levitas said that for five years he opposed the construction of capital structures near the protected area. He has repeatedly warned of the risks to the natural site, but he claims these concerns have not been taken into account.
The current state of the spring is associated with the development of the adjacent territory. At the same time, the documented reasons for the deterioration of the source’s condition are not given in the published report.
Levitas also complained about the actions of the supervisory authorities. According to him, the prosecutor’s office supported the position of developers and insisted on the approval of the facility by the regional Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology.
Now representatives of the Public Chamber plan to send appeals to the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Ulyanovsk region and the environmental prosecutor's office to draw attention to the situation.
Marishkin spring has the status of a specially protected natural area. Therefore, the issues of preserving the source and the admissibility of construction work nearby require separate consideration.
The final causes of the deterioration of the spring condition have not yet been established. To assess the possible impact of construction, the results of profile inspections and expert conclusions are necessary.
