Renovation of suburbs and residential high-rises instead of wastelands: what will change in the general plan of Grodno
Grodno’s general plan has not changed since 2018. The head of the profile department Denis Konon explained the need to compact the city line and change the order of development of road infrastructure.

Adjustment of the draft general plan of the city of Grodno will be included in the state order for 2027. This decision was enshrined in the list of urban development projects approved by the Belarusian Government. A representative of the Department of Construction, Architecture and Urban Planning of the Grodno City Executive Committee told BelTA about the planned changes.
The head of the department Denis Conon explained that large-scale work will begin next year. The focus will be on changing functional zoning, renovating inefficiently used areas and creating smart solutions to compact urban development.
The General Development Plan of Grodno was developed in 2018 and has not been amended since then. Life does not stand still, new needs and priorities are formed. In this regard, changes are required primarily in the functional zoning of urban areas. More than 50 places have been identified where certain changes are needed, Denis Konon explained.
As an example, he pointed to the territory next to Suvorov Street, where unkempt private buildings still remain at the entrance to the city. This area could be transformed by replacing it with modern multi-storey buildings. In some already inhabited neighborhoods, there were also undeveloped plots that were originally planned to be used for public facilities. However, these plans have not been implemented, and apartment buildings will now be built on these sites.
Regarding the transport infrastructure of the regional center, as the interlocutor noted, it is already well thought out. The changes will affect only the order of the planned work.
Denis Konon emphasized that all adjustments to the master plan will be made taking into account the opinion of citizens. There are also plans for public discussions.
