Russians are advised to make a supply of water, food and medicine: what is the reason

The modern city seems like a reliable fortress, but hurricanes, abnormal snowfalls and sudden breakouts of the heating mains regularly prove the opposite. Relying solely on city services is risky, as rebuilding infrastructure can take three to four days.

Civil defense specialist Viktor Lebedev focuses on the speed of emergency development. An accident on networks or a natural disaster isolates the house from its usual comfort in a matter of hours. “Having a basic reserve at home is not paranoia, but a way to keep your cool and not run to the store, sweeping everything off the shelves in panic,” the expert notes. This is the basic wisdom available to families on any budget.

Doctors place special emphasis on medicines. Therapist Elena Gromova warns that for people with chronic diseases, even a short failure in access to drugs poses a direct threat to health. It is recommended to keep at least a two-week supply of vital medicines at home. Also in the home first aid kit should be antipyretic, painkillers, antihistamines and dressings. To check the expiration dates, experts advise at least twice a year.

As for food, experts are categorically against the creation of a “bunker”. It is enough to keep on hand long-term positions: cereals, pasta, canned food and a supply of bottled water. The ideal strategy for managing such resources is rotation: they used a can of stew, immediately bought a new one on the next purchase. That way the supplies will always be fresh.

The main idea of experts is extremely simple: it is not about preparing for global cataclysms, but about practical insurance against ordinary problems. A sudden water outage, a closed store, or a delay to the emergency crew will no longer be a cause for stress if you have this small but robust security buffer.
