Russians complained about the barbaric treatment of passports in Thailand

Holidays in Thailand, Russian tourists faced an unpleasant problem: the damage of passports at the stage of migration control. According to travelers, airport staff and hotel staff often fasten receipts for payment of fees or registration passes directly to the pages of the document with a regular stapler.

The consequences of such actions can be very serious. Russian border guards are extremely strict about the integrity of documents. A passport with through holes, tears or traces of glue with a high degree of probability may be invalidated. This is fraught with serious problems when flying from abroad or entering Russia. Similar complaints come from other popular destinations: for example, in Georgia, tourists faced the fact that the cover of the passport was glued with undeletable visa stickers.

Another hidden enemy of the document is the tropical climate. High humidity in Thailand is harmful for paper passports of the old sample (for a period of five years). Pages quickly deform and go in waves, the cover begins to peel off, and the ink blurs, making the text unreadable for scanners.

Experts and experienced travelers give some simple tips on how to save a document:

1. Politely, but firmly, ask the migration officer or hotel employee not to fasten the papers with the passport, but to invest them separately or use a paper clip.

2. Keep the document in a sealed zip bag, not just in a short pocket or beach bag. This will save him not only from harmful moisture, but also from sand and dirt.

Remember: the responsibility for the safety of the document lies with its owner, so it is better to be safe than to spend time and money on urgent registration of a new passport in the consulate.
