Russian city breaks 103-year-old temperature record
In Nizhny Novgorod, a new temperature record was recorded

In Nizhny Novgorod, a new temperature record was recorded. The former lasted more than a century. According to data published on the website of the Hydrometeorological Center, on October 16, the air in the city warmed up to +20.4 ° C, which allowed to update the absolute maximum for this day.
The previous achievement was established 103 years ago - in 1923, when the thermometers on this day rose only to +18 ° C. The excess was more than two degrees.
Abnormally warm weather in mid-October is observed not only in Nizhny Novgorod. According to the Hydrometeorological Center, on the eve of temperature records were broken in six more Russian cities. In Yoshkar-Ola, the air warmed up to +20.1°C, while the previous maximum recorded in 1982 was +18.8°C. In Kirov, the current +19.1°C was higher than in 1993, when the temperature did not rise above +16°C. Saransk was marked by a particularly high value - + 22.2 ° C, which is significantly higher than the record of 1974 (+ 20.3 ° C). In Izhevsk, the temperature reached +20.2 ° C, updating the achievement of 1955 (+17.1 ° C). Cheboksary with an indicator of +19.9 ° C broke the record of 2009 (+19 ° C), and Perm with +19.1 ° C exceeded the maximum of 2023, amounting to +16.5 ° C.
It is worth noting that such a long series of temperature records in different regions of the country indicates a persistent heat anomaly, which covered a significant part of the territory of Russia. Forecasters associate such phenomena with the peculiarities of atmospheric circulation, contributing to the influx of warm air masses from southern latitudes.
