From 2027, Russian children will need personal passports

This was told by the representative of the Public chamber of the Russian Federation Evgeny Masharov. From next year, the passports of the old sample (which are valid for five years) will no longer include information about minors. Every child under 14 years old will need their own document to cross the border.

There is no need to panic and run to the MFC right now. If you have already entered a child in your five-year passport, this mark will continue to work until the end of the document. The ban will only apply to new designs.

In fact, this measure will only formalize what is already happening in reality. The option of “include the child” already lost its meaning. In many popular countries, such as the UAE, children in any case required a separate document. In Egypt, Turkey or Thailand, while allowed on the mark in the passport of the parent, the global trend is moving towards individual documents for each traveler. Parents themselves are increasingly choosing the registration of children's passports to avoid problems at customs.

If you plan to travel abroad for 2027 and beyond, set aside the time and budget to produce individual children’s documents. By the way, for teenagers over 14 years old, the rule is simple: they in any case need their passport or internal passport of the Russian Federation.
