Almost 3.6 thousand accidents involving wild animals were recorded in Belarus for eight months. This was told in the State Inspectorate for the Protection of Animal and Plant World under the President of the Republic of Belarus, writes sb.by.
The number of accidents involving wild animals in Belarus is growing. For 8 months of 2026, 3593 facts were registered, which is 7.3% more than in the same period last year. As a result of these incidents, 3,650 wild animals died, including 2,641 deer, 764 elk, 90 noble deer and 134 wild boars, the ministry said.
The cause of more than 90% of accidents are moose and deer. Moose pose the greatest danger due to its large size - almost all incidents with dead or injured people are associated with them.
Accidents involving other species of wild animals are isolated. At the same time, there are incidents caused by bison, bears, lynx, deer, spotted deer, beavers, otters and other animals.
In order to avoid an accident, drivers should exercise increased care at dusk, at night and in the morning, especially in the area of warning road signs “Wild Animals”, and choose the appropriate speed mode. Higher risk is posed by sections of highways with close tree and shrub vegetation.”.
If a wild animal in the dark is in the light of the headlights, you need to stop, turn off the headlights (but leave the position lights on), turn on the emergency light alarm, thereby giving the animal time to adapt to the onset of darkness and leave the road.
If it was not possible to avoid a collision with a large wild animal, the driver is obliged to inform the traffic police about the fact of such an accident. Upon detection of injured, injured, sick or dead wild animals, it is forbidden to arbitrarily extract, cut, move or use products. For violation there is administrative or criminal liability.
