The gardener explained when to finish the summer season
Whether to close the garden season in October or wait until November – this question worries many summer residents

Whether to close the garden season in October or wait until November – this question worries many summer residents. In an interview with URA.RU, a gardener with 30 years of experience, blogger and author of books Svetlana Samoilova explained what the timing depends on and what crops can be left on the beds until the coldest.
There is no clear answer: the season can be completed in August, September, and October, or not closed at all.
“It all depends on what plants you grow in the garden, how free you are at the disposal of personal time and whether you need to escort your children to school,” she explained.
So, the owners of roses traditionally finish the work at the end of August, coming later only to shelter the bushes, and summer residents of the weekend can visit the site all winter – visit it and clean the snow from the roofs of greenhouses and conifers.
If the season does not end, some crops can not be removed. Daikon, radish and leek, on the advice of Samoilova, are left on the bed, covering the arc with a nonwoven material and a film for heat. The same applies to repairable strawberries, if you want to collect sweet berries for the November holidays, it is kept until a cold snap to -6 degrees or the first snow.
Those who still close the season in October, the gardener advises to have time for the main thing: to collect the entire harvest, clean the beds from plant residues and lay the leaves in compost, prune the stems of perennials and fruiting apple trees, drain water from barrels, hoses and irrigation systems, and in the greenhouse light a tobacco bomb from a spider mite and whitefly and close the doors tightly. Over roses, blackberries and large-leaved hydrangeas, frames are put, and in October bulbous ones are already planted - grouse, daffodils, crocuses, tulips and hyacinths.
Samoilova also revealed the secret of early flowering: bulbs are planted in a pot and buried in a greenhouse, where the temperature rises earlier with the first sunlight in the spring. In the stage of budding, the pot is taken to the garden or taken home, and flowering occurs two to three weeks earlier than the neighbors.
Separately, the expert stopped at the shelter of plants: plantings breathe under nonwoven material and do not spray even in warm autumn, so they can be closed in October. If the film is used, the ends are left open until November.
Those who plan to visit the country in the winter, Samoilova advised to put a shovel for snow at the gate inside the site - then after a heavy snowfall, the path can be cleared immediately, without making your way through snowdrifts to the shed.
Earlier mushroom pickers and summer residents called the main mistakes when meeting with a snake.
