Sugar, genetics and sarcopenia were recognized as the culprits of obesity in the Leningrad region
Even people of normal weight can develop obesity of internal organs, and body weight does not always reflect its composition. A person may also suffer from sarcopenia. This was told in an interview with RIA Novosti by endocrinologist Kamil Tabeeva. This writes the portal 360.ru.

Even people of normal weight can develop obesity of internal organs, and body weight does not always reflect its composition. A person may also suffer from sarcopenia. This was told in an interview with RIA Novosti by endocrinologist Kamil Tabeeva. This writes the portal 360.ru.
As Tabeeva noted, a person of normal weight may have excess visceral fat and lack of muscle mass. Excess visceral fat is dangerous, as this tissue is actively involved in metabolism. And body mass index doesn't always give the full picture in such cases.
The composition of the body can be determined using bioimpedance, a method that uses a weak electric current to assess the ratio of fat and muscle mass. It is also important to consider waist circumference: the risk increases if this figure exceeds 80 centimeters in women and 94 centimeters in men.
The doctor named three main reasons for the development of disorders: genetic predisposition, sarcopenia and diet. The diet is often dominated by fast carbohydrates and trans fats, such as sugar, pastries and fast food. At the same time, a person may not exceed the norm of calories, but the quality of food remains low.
It should be noted that sarcopenia is a progressive loss of muscle mass, strength and functionality. That is, the muscles not only decrease in volume, but also weaken, which makes it harder to perform usual tasks. Many people really think that sarcopenia is only about the elderly or overweight people. But in fact, it can develop in anyone, even in a thin and athletic person.
