The Ministry of Internal Affairs recalled the rules for the use of retroreflective elements, writes sb.by.

The police department noted that with the reduction of daylight hours, the problem of accidents with pedestrians and cyclists, not marked with retroreflective elements, is exacerbated.
“From the driver’s seat, objects on the carriageway merge with the darkness and become virtually invisible. In addition, sitting behind the wheel can blind the light of the headlights of oncoming transport, explained the interior Ministry.
According to police, a pedestrian or cyclist, illuminated by an approaching car, becomes visible for 25-30 meters. Such a distance at a speed of 90 km / h is overcome per second, even from a speed of 50 km / h, the stopping distance exceeds the specified distance.
The Ministry stressed that it is important to use flickers correctly:
the reflector should be clearly visible from all sides;
glowing tape should be tied on the sleeve or trousers, and the suspension should be fastened to clothes or briefcase, bag;
optimal use of two or more flickers at the same time;
white, lemon, yellow – these colors meet the requirements and really signal the driver about your presence on the road;
in the dark on country roads cyclists are obliged to wear clothes or special vests with retroreflective inserts.
“The use of flickers is an effective way to improve your safety on the roads,” the interior ministry said.
