In Jerusalem on the morning of October 14, 2026, the Israeli police announced the completion of a large-scale special operation that lasted ten months and led to the arrest of 28 suspects in the trafficking of dangerous drugs.
The operation, carried out by the Jerusalem District Central Police Department (YAMAR), was the result of painstaking work with an embedded agent, a well-known man in criminal circles, whom the media call “D’.” As Kan News notes, the agent was previously a prominent figure in nightlife, allowing him to gain the trust of drug dealers and infiltrate closed supply chains leading to the capital and central parts of the country
Over the course of ten months, the agent, under the direction of the YAMAR Agents Department and in close cooperation with the Jerusalem District Prosecutor’s Office, carried out dozens of controlled transactions, purchasing about 100 grams of cocaine, tens of grams of MDMA (ecstasy), approximately 10 kilograms of marijuana and more than 20 tiles of hashish from the suspects. The total cost of purchased drugs is estimated at hundreds of thousands of shekels. All transactions were closely monitored by the police, which allowed to collect a significant evidence base against participants in criminal schemes.
The signal for the beginning of a large-scale wave of arrests was given in the early morning of October 14. The operation was attended by police forces of the Jerusalem district, fighters of the Border Service (MAGAV), the National Guard, canine units and police from all districts of the country. At the same time, searches and detentions were carried out throughout Israel. Among the detainees are men and women between the ages of 20 and 40, Jews and Arabs, residents of Jerusalem, the central region and East Jerusalem (the Beit Hanin district). According to Ynet, among the suspects was a minor, about 17 years old, who acted as a liaison between large dealers and small distributors, as well as four previously convicted drug offenders who were under house arrest at the time of detention.
During the searches, dangerous drugs (including cocaine and LSD), weighing scales, 12 cars allegedly used to transport and sell drugs, and more than 100,000 shekels in cash were seized. All 28 detainees were taken to court to consider the extension of arrest, the investigation is ongoing.
On the same day, a ceremony was held to reveal the identity of the agent in the presence of Nikzav Avshalom Peled, commander of the Jerusalem Police District. The scourge of dangerous drugs poisons our youth, destroys families and is a central driver of crime, generating serious acts of violence and criminal conflict on the streets. This morning, we can safely say that we have achieved two of the main objectives of this operation: first, to strike at the inner circle of criminals who run the supply chain and supply the capital with drugs; and second, to undermine the trust and ability of criminals to rely on each other, thereby hampering their activities. No criminal in this field knows today whether the next deal will be his last and bring him to prison.”.
According to The Jerusalem Post, such large-scale operations using embedded agents have become a regular practice of the Israeli police in recent years: similar events in Tel Aviv and in the north of the country in 2023-2024 ended with the arrest of 20 to 40 suspects at a time. The use of undercover agents is strictly regulated by Israeli law and requires the approval of senior police officers as well as ongoing supervision by the public prosecutor’s office (State Prosecutor’s Office). All stages of such operations are controlled by the court, which ensures the legality of the collection of evidence and the protection of the rights of suspects.
Experts note that over the past two years, cocaine and ecstasy seizures in Israel have increased by more than 20%, and Jerusalem remains one of the main centers of the fight against drug trafficking. The growing popularity of synthetic drugs is associated with changing social habits and the activity of criminal gangs that use new sales channels and focus on the youth and nightlife of large cities.
In the near future, according to analysts, the case will go to the judicial plane: the detainees are waiting for hearings on the extension of arrest and, probably, charges for heavy articles. The investigation could lead to further detentions as the evidence gathered by the agent reveals a wider network of suppliers and distributors. The operation has already dealt a serious blow to the structures of the drug business in Jerusalem, and the psychological effect of undermining trust between participants in criminal schemes can become a deterrent for other groups. It is possible that the successful experience of YAMAR will be used in other districts of the country, where the problem of synthetic drugs and organized drug trafficking remains acute.
