Serpukhov summer residents explained the rules of winter storage of vegetables
Agronom Sergey Demin told how Serpukhovich to save the harvest until spring

The optimal temperature for potatoes, carrots and beets is stable 2-5 degrees. The vegetables themselves will suggest problems: white sprouts on potatoes mean that the cellar is too warm, shrivelled root vegetables - that the air is overdried, and condensation on the walls and mold - excess dampness.
The expert advises to store carrots and beets in wet sand or sawdust or in plastic bags with holes for ventilation. Potatoes need darkness and boxes with cracks, and it should be kept separate from apples and pears - fruits secrete ethylene, which accelerates germination. Onions, garlic and pumpkins, on the contrary, need a dry place.
Against mice, the agronomist recommends only traps and ultrasonic repellents.
“To use poison in a room where food is stored is a crime against one’s own health,” he warned.
It is worth checking the cellar once every two weeks.
