Engineers of the mobile operator refarmed the network near the Leningrad Zoo in St. Petersburg. This allowed to increase the capacity of mobile Internet for subscribers by 20%.
Refarming involves the transfer of frequencies from outdated standards to modern LTE. Specialists redistributed frequency bands in favor of 4G, the press service of MegaFon reported. This affected network quality without building new base stations. The update affected not only the territory of the zoo, but also the neighboring square with residential buildings nearby.
Leningrad Zoo, founded in 1865, is one of the oldest in Russia. It covers an area of 7.4 hectares and retains the architectural layout of the late XIX century, remaining part of the historical ensemble of the city. In 2025, the zoo celebrated its 160th anniversary and welcomed more than 1.2 million guests from around the world.
According to the operator, the Lensoo Park is one of the most media tourist points of the city. On average, guests transmit about 1.5 TB of traffic through the operator’s equipment per day. From June to August 2026, subscriber activity in the zoo area increased by 13% compared to last summer.
Most often tourists come here from Moscow, Samara, Ufa and Yekaterinburg. Each subscriber, on average, uploads 540MB of content from the zoo. Among foreign guests, the most numerous were citizens of Belarus, China, Vietnam, the United States and a number of European countries.
