In the first week of October, IAA TelecomDaily conducted annual quality tests of communication among cellular operators providing Internet access service in the Moscow Metro. Experts measured the average speed from subscriber, average speed to subscriber, ping, time to load the test page Kepler.
The average speed to the subscriber, Download (the main indicator when measuring), was 184.9 Mbit / s. In the first place on this characteristic was “MegaFon” – 194.4 Mbit / s.
The Moscow Metro is one of the most difficult sites in terms of radio planning. There are thousands of subscribers in a limited area at the same time, while the load on the network is constantly changing due to the intensive movement of passengers, said Mikhail Prakhov, Regional Development Director of MegaFon.
The measurements were carried out at 24 stations selected for the intensity of passenger traffic. It is from 83 to 207 thousand people. Experts studied the path of passengers from entrances and lobbies to escalators, platforms and places of boarding in cars.
“Together with mobile operators, we are doing everything to ensure that high-speed Internet and high-quality voice communication are available to metro passengers on all platforms, passages, tunnels and escalators,” said Maxim Liksutov, deputy mayor of Moscow for transport and industry, adding that since 2011, the speed of mobile Internet in the metro has increased more than 40 times.
