“An isolated case”: the Ministry of housing commented on the situation with water in Myadel

For eight months of 2026, the Unified Service No. 115 received about 17 thousand complaints from Belarusians about the quality of drinking water. Deputy Head of the Department of Public Utilities and Energy of the Ministry of Housing and Utilities Irina Salivonchik in the Tik-Tolk program noted that this is less than 1% of the total number of consumers who receive water, and told why in some cases it is necessary to wash water supply networks.

What's going on in Myadel

Residents complained about the changed color of the water. After contacting the service No. 115, experts found that the iron content standards were exceeded. However, after the work, according to the applicant, the problem persisted.

Irina Salivonchik said that the appeal to this address is not closed. To solve the problem, the city will conduct a comprehensive washing of external and internal drinking water supply systems.

“The application for water quality in the city of Myadel is a one-off. The Ministry of Housing and Local Authorities studied this situation. The application is not closed, but a comprehensive washing of external and internal drinking water supply systems will be carried out, Salivonchik said.

According to her, during the work will have to disable certain sections of networks. In some cases, this may affect social facilities and schools, so the deadline for the execution of the application is extended.

“Water is hygienic on outdoor networks. To date, it is necessary to wash the internal drinking water supply systems of this residential building, the representative of the Ministry explained.

Why does water color change

Irina Salivonchik stressed that the changed color of the water does not always mean a major accident or a general problem with the water supply of the city. Several factors can affect water quality: source composition, network condition and purification technology.

“To date, there are many factors that affect the quality of drinking water: the natural increased iron content in the source of drinking water supply, that is, in the water body from which water is extracted. Also affects the state of the water supply networks themselves, their accident rate, including the use of cleaning technology, she said.

In this case, the water should not contain impurities of rust or have a pronounced unusual color. In such cases, specialists conduct a survey, take samples and determine what work is necessary.

According to her, the situation in Myadel is isolated. To restore water quality in a residential house, it is necessary to perform preventive and organizational and technical measures, including washing of internal systems.
