Maduro's wife asks US court for release due to heart problems
Before capture and removal from Venezuela Flores underwent heart surgery

The defense of Cilia Flores, the wife of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, appealed to the federal court of the Southern District of New York with a request to release her from custody before the hearing on the merits. This is reported by TASS with reference to the petition of lawyers.
The document states that even before the capture and removal from Venezuela, Flores underwent heart surgery. Currently, she needs to take several medications and constantly carry nitroglycerin in case of a heart attack. In addition, lawyer Mark Donnelly stressed that since his detention, his client has not received a monthly injection to treat mitral valve prolapse.
According to the defense, detention in prison should be replaced by house arrest, since the woman does not pose a threat to society and needs recovery after recommended cardiac catheterization.
On January 3, the U.S. military attacked facilities in Venezuela, seized and took the couple to the United States. They are accused of involvement in drug trafficking, they did not admit guilt. Judge Alvin Hellerstein set the trial for June 1, 2027. Former Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has been appointed acting head of state.
