Unbelievers, according to the Christian faith, cannot expect to enter the Kingdom of Heaven only through good deeds. The final decision to save each person is up to God. This was told in an interview with the publication “Apsats” by the clergyman of the Church of St. Nicholas of Myrlikiy in Kuznetsy, Priest Philip Ilyashenko.
According to the priest, moral behavior and good deeds in themselves do not guarantee salvation of the soul. It is impossible to tell in advance who will be in paradise and who will not.
Ilyashenko explained that human ideas about the necessary conditions of salvation cannot limit the will of God. Even the existence of religious precepts does not mean that people know the fate of each person after death.
“Salvation is the work of God; man himself cannot be saved. At the same time, salvation remains a secret: there are no formal conditions, fixing which, you can be sure of success. We will only know about this at the Last Judgment. By default, the answer is negative, because there is a direct indication about baptism. But how exactly and who will be saved, God decides, and He can do everything.
Thus, the priest distinguished the general provisions of the Christian teaching on the necessity of faith and baptism and the question of the fate of a particular person. He said that people cannot judge the salvation of the soul, because this decision belongs exclusively to God.
