Tatarstan among regions with low risk of homelessness

In the analytical study of the charity organization “Nochlezhka” and the project “To be exact”, Tatarstan is located on the 82nd line among 85 subjects of the Russian Federation on the risk of homelessness. Since there are no official accurate statistics of people without a certain place of residence, the expert analysis was based on 15 indirect criteria. These included debt levels, unemployment, mortality rates, availability of square metres and the number of single citizens. The logic of making a list is this: the higher the line, the more acute the problem is. Accordingly, the 82nd place confirms the high degree of prosperity of Tatarstan.

Tatarstan was allowed to improve its positional indicators by moderate poverty indicators, the minimum share of citizens in the emergency fund, as well as a relatively small percentage of those serving sentences in prisons. Statistics show that earnings less than 1.5 times higher than the official poverty threshold are recorded in only 11% of the population of the republic, while the national average result is kept at 22.1%. However, analysts emphasize that a prosperous status does not indicate a complete absence of difficulties. A number of aspects, such as the extent of domestic violence or the effectiveness of social services, are problematic to analyze from official open sources.

Among the anti-leaders with the maximum threat to be on the street included Yakutia, Chukotka and the Republic of Tuva. The main prerequisites for this are the dilapidated housing stock, financial insolvency of the population, debt burden, high mortality and migration activity. It is noteworthy that 17 of the top 20 disadvantaged regions are geographically located beyond the Ural Range - in the Siberian and Far Eastern regions. The least risks were recorded in the North Caucasus (Dagestan, Chechnya, Kabardino-Balkaria). Experts explain this by strong traditional family institutions: loved ones are more active in supporting fellow citizens in trouble and taking orphans for upbringing. However, in these subjects, a latent form of homelessness is common, when citizens are forced to huddle in buildings without residential status, on someone else's square meters or in emergency buildings.
