Tomsk surgeons rescued a man with a rare complication after lifting weights
The examination revealed a fistula between the intestine and bladder

It all started suddenly: after lifting weights, a completely healthy man had pain in the lower abdomen. Suspecting prostatitis, he turned to a urologist. Ultrasound showed a suspicious seal in the small pelvis, and the patient was sent to the oncology department for further examination.
However, two days before hospitalization, the condition worsened. The man responsibly treated his health and promptly made an MRI of the small pelvis. The study revealed a serious complication - diverticulosis of the sigmoid intestine with the formation of a sigmoid-urinary fistula.
With these results, the patient went to the Tomsk Regional Clinical Hospital. The attending physician explained in detail the seriousness of the situation and insisted on urgent hospitalization. The man agreed without hesitation.
Head of the Coloproctology Department of TOKB Yuri Kasyanov noted that the operation was successful due to the coordinated work of the multidisciplinary team. The patient removed the affected part of the sigmoid intestine along with diverticula and fistula. Connected urologists performed resection and plasticization of the bladder wall.
During the recovery period, the man was given a temporary epicystoma. After two months, urologists will close it, and the patient will fully return to his usual lifestyle.
