The third wedding is possible, and the fourth is not: the Church explained why
The Orthodox Church allows marriage not only in the first, but also in the second marriage

The Orthodox Church allows marriage not only in the first, but also in the second marriage. A third church marriage will require special permission. About who gives it and why the fourth union is no longer blessed, said priest Yevgeny Yaganov.
The explanation is published on the Orthodox portal “ABC of Faith”. The reason was the question of a young priest, who was to marry parishioners who had already had experience of family life.
When married without special permission
According to Yevgeny Yaganov, if at least one of the future spouses gets married for the first time, the wedding is performed according to the usual rite.
This means that a person who creates a family for the first time is not deprived of the solemn church ceremony because of the previous marriage of his chosen one or chosen one.
The situation is different when it comes to a third marriage. In the Orthodox tradition, such a union is allowed as an exception associated with condescension to human weakness.
Who decides the fate of the third wedding
Independently to allow the third wedding parish priest can not. For the ceremony, it is necessary to receive the blessing of the bishop.
The procedure for applying for such permission depends on the rules of the particular diocese. Therefore, future spouses are advised to discuss the situation with the priest in advance and find out what actions will be required.
At the same time, the Orthodox Church no longer blesses the fourth marriage.
Before the wedding is advised to confess
The priest also recalled the spiritual preparation for the sacrament. People who rarely visit the church and do not regularly participate in church life are advised to confess and take communion before the wedding.
The question of remarriage is considered taking into account the circumstances of a particular couple. Therefore, those who have already been married, it is better to contact the temple before choosing the date of the ceremony.
