Fathers in Russia can use tax deductions, receive separate payments after the birth of a child and apply for support measures when applying for a mortgage. About what opportunities are provided for men with children, the publication “Izvestia” told the lawyer Emil Khalimov.
From 2026, financial assistance from the employer at the birth of a child will not be taxed on personal income tax within 1 million rubles for each parent. Therefore, fathers, including residents of the Tula region, should clarify in advance in their organization whether such a payment is provided and what documents are needed for its registration.
For comparison, the federal lump sum allowance at the birth of a child is 28,450.45 rubles. The amount and conditions for receiving other payments depend on the specific support measure.
The father can also take leave to care for a child up to three years. According to Khalimov, this can be beneficial to the family if the man’s earnings are higher than the mother’s income. The benefit is calculated taking into account earnings, and its maximum size can reach 83,021.92 rubles. Starting from 2024, the payment will continue if the parent returns to work full time.
In some cases, the father has the right to receive maternity capital. Such a right arises, for example, if the man is the sole adoptive parent of the child or the mother has died, been deprived of parental rights or committed an intentional crime against the child.
Another support measure is for families with mortgages. The borrower father can issue a payment of up to 450 thousand rubles to repay the housing loan after the birth of the third child, subject to the established conditions.
Tulyaks who plan to issue payments or benefits should check the requirements for each program and prepare the necessary documents. Conditions may vary depending on the type of support, family composition and specific situation.
