Kalm State University scientists will talk about the connection between animal health and human welfare

Why can farm animals become a serious threat to entire regions? The answer to this and other questions will be given by experts of the regional research and production center for the reproduction of farm animals of Kalmyk State University. The university launches a series of open popular science lectures, united by the concept of “One Health”.

The project is being implemented thanks to the ambitious initiative “One Health: An Umbrella Approach to Combating Zoonotic Infections”. Students are invited to understand the inextricable connection between the state of the environment, animal and human health.

The first meeting will be held on October 15 in the conference hall of KalmSU. The theme of the lecture is “One Planet, One Health”. Experts will explain why ignoring livestock diseases leads to epidemics among humans, and look at the human-animal-environment chain using real-world examples.

Special attention will be paid to regional specifics. The Republic of Kalmykia is a key agricultural region, where pastures occupy 84% of the territory. Scientists will talk about the specific risks faced by local livestock farmers and their families.
