Scientists have found a natural remedy to lower blood pressure

An international team of researchers from South Korea and Canada found that specially processed Korean ginseng can help reduce blood pressure in people with initial manifestations of hypertension. The results of scientific work on the effect of herbal preparations on the cardiovascular system, published in the journal Nutrients.

The experiment involved 90 volunteers with high blood pressure. For three months, one group took white ginseng extract daily, another took red ginseng extract, and a third received a placebo. Both herbal preparations contained about 40 milligrams of ginsenoside Rg3, a natural compound that can affect the condition of blood vessels.

By the end of the study, participants taking white ginseng had an average decrease in systolic pressure of 7.27 millimeters of mercury, and those receiving red had an average decrease of almost 10 millimeters. In the placebo group, the indicator increased by about five millimeters. Positive changes were recorded for the lower pressure: it decreased by 5.27 and 6.32 mm, respectively.

The authors of the study believe that ginseng preparations with an increased concentration of the active substance Rg3 can become an additional tool for the prevention and control of hypertension. However, larger trials are needed to confirm long-term effectiveness. Scientists also do not consider herbal remedies as a full-fledged replacement for medications prescribed by a doctor.
