Scientists have found a way to strengthen the fight against immunity with cancer
Researchers at Cold Spring Harbor found that the protein PPARδ, which promotes cancer growth, can enhance the immune system’s ability to fight tumors. The findings are published Oct. 14 in the journal Nature Immunology.

Researchers at Cold Spring Harbor found that the protein PPARδ, which promotes cancer growth, can enhance the immune system’s ability to fight tumors. The findings are published Oct. 14 in the journal Nature Immunology.
In experiments in mice, protein activation in T cells slowed the development of several cancers, including colorectal cancer, melanoma and breast cancer. Combined with immunotherapy, the reinforced cells helped half the mice get rid of the tumors completely.
The scientists also tested genetically modified human CAR-T cells in laboratory models of cancer. They slowed or stopped the growth of tumors under different experimental conditions.
The method has not yet been tested in humans. Since PPARδ is able to accelerate the growth of cancer cells, future therapy should only target immune cells. More research is needed to assess safety.
