In Bryansk, the phase “All red” introduced 90% of traffic lights

In Bryansk, 90% of traffic lights introduced an additional phase of “All red”, which should improve pedestrian safety. This was reported at a meeting of the Commission on road safety under the head of the city administration.

Special attention is paid to areas near schools and other educational institutions. Now at all traffic lights near such objects there is a mode in which for a short time the prohibiting signal lights up simultaneously for all directions. This allows pedestrians to wait for a safe moment to cross the road.

As explained by the head of the traffic police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Bryansk Alexei Konovalenko, the innovation is designed to reduce the risk of accidents due to the passage of cars at a red light. An additional pause gives pedestrians time to stay on the sidewalk until traffic stops altogether.

The meeting also summed up the results of work on ensuring security near educational institutions. In July and August, the road control applied 3 thousand square meters of horizontal markings and updated the designations at 220 pedestrian crossings.

In addition, experts restored 207 road signs, trimmed green spaces to improve visibility and arranged artificial irregularities. These measures aim to improve road safety near places where children are often found.
