In the Chashnik district on September 16 solemnly reburied the remains of a Red Army soldier who died in 1941, protecting this region from the Nazis. The name of the warrior-liberator remained unknown, but descendants pay tribute to his heroic feat today, 85 years later. That's what sb says. by

The bone remains of the fighter were discovered in June this year during field search. A joint expedition of servicemen of the 52nd Specialized Search Battalion of the Ministry of Defense and the Batkovschyna search group conducted research near the village of Vyatero Kruglitsky village council.
- Exploring the territory with the help of special probes and metal detectors, searchers found one unaccounted burial, said Natalia Ivanova, director of the Chashnik Historical Museum. From the uncovered excavation, about one and a half meters deep, bone remains of a human skeleton were extracted. It is believed to be the remains of a Red Army soldier who died in 1941.

Along with the remains were found and artifacts of that era – small fragments of uniforms, as well as a gas mask transferred to the museum, which serves as evidence of the first, most difficult months of the war. The place of the last shelter for the newly found hero was the mass grave No. 2623 in the village of Mountains of the Kruglitsky village council. This place is not accidental. It was here that fierce defensive battles unfolded in July 1941. While many parts of the Chashnik district were quickly under occupation, near the villages of Gory, Tovpino, Small and Large Lipovichi, Soviet fighters of the 17th Rifle Division made a desperate attempt to stop the advance of the Nazis.
- The forces were unequal, explains Natalia Vyacheslavovna, delving into history. After a heavy counterfight on the fields near the village of Gory, hundreds of units of broken Soviet equipment remained. Only a few Red Army soldiers managed to escape from this encirclement alive.
Later, in 1943, these lands became the arena of active actions of the Polotsk-Lepel partisan unit and the Chashnik brigade “Dubov”. The support of the guerrillas by the residents of Mount turned into a tragedy for the village: the Nazi punitive detachments partially burned it, destroying four courtyards and killing four local residents. Full liberation came in June 1944 during Operation Bagration, when the troops of the 43rd Army of the 1st Baltic Front knocked out the retreating Hitler units.
In 1959, a monument was erected in the village of Gory, where 49 Red Army soldiers are already buried. The names of 21 of them have been identified, the remaining 28 – as well as the soldier reburied today – remain unknown. But descendants don't forget. Today’s event is a tribute to the feat of defenders of the Fatherland and an important contribution to the preservation of historical truth. Every warrior found and buried with dignity returns from oblivion, reminding us of the price of peace and the heroism of those who gave their lives for it.

On September 18, the remains of the Red Army will also be reburied in the Dubrovensky district. In the military burial of the agro-town of Orlovichi, the remains of one soldier of the Red Army, found in May 2026 near the village of Mikheyevka by the 52nd separate search battalion together with the Vitebsk regional historical and patriotic search club "Flame", will be interred. On the same day, in the village of Baevo, five Red Army soldiers will be buried with honors in military burial No. 4825. Their remains were discovered in July 2026 near the village of Kozly by the forces of military unit 28443 and the search group “Batkovshchyna”.
