Outside the window of October, until winter is still far away, but in the workshops of the Moscow State University of Veliky Novgorod "Urban Economy" already reigns pre-holiday fuss. Specialists are preparing for the New Year holidays about two hundred light decorations, which will soon transform the streets of the regional center, the press service of the institution said.
Preparation for the holiday begins in the summer. Nine masters work hard every day on every detail. Any light console should be carefully inspected, painted the frame, checked each light bulb and, if necessary, replaced. Now, in October, the work is nearing completion, and the readiness of the decorations already reaches 70%. On the day, the masters collect and test about twenty-five designs: install junction boxes, carefully apply the LED tape and check how reliably everything is fixed.
“These light ornaments are five years old. And these are not just decorative elements. This is part of the most magical holiday, a piece of the New Year’s mood, a unique Novgorod decoration, says Oleg Glumov, chief energy officer of Gorhoz
The decorations are affected by severe weather: temperature changes, icy rains and heavy snow. But the main enemy of the New Year miracle is the citizens themselves. Constructions regularly get from hooligans, and from those who want to make a spectacular selfie, climbing on fragile glowing deer. Therefore, every year the masters have to spend time on cosmetic repairs and updating the decor.
To see the usual and favorite "Snowflakes", "Owls", "Bears" and "Novgorodiki" residents of the city will be able in the second half of November. It is then that the installation will begin in the center, on Bolshaya Moskovskaya, Lomonosov streets, Mir Avenue and Nikolai Antonov Alley. But heavy ground compositions will take their places on the streets in December, closer to the New Year holidays.
