In the Ivanovo region, prosecutors stopped attempts to initiate criminal cases

In the Ivanovo region increased control over the legality of initiating criminal cases. According to the regional prosecutor's office, over the current year the number of suppressed attempts of unjustified criminal prosecution increased by almost 50% compared to the same period last year.

The regional prosecutor Andrey Zhugin called the prevention of illegal prosecution of citizens one of the priorities of the department. To do this, prosecutors check the materials of the investigative bodies at the pre-trial stage and take measures to identify violations.

For nine months of this year, prosecutors found more than 47 thousand violations during pre-trial proceedings. More than 24 thousand of them concerned the reception, registration and consideration of reports of crimes. In order to ensure timely investigation and compliance with reasonable terms of proceedings, the agency sent more than two thousand demands.

The prosecutor’s office stressed that the increase in the number of suppressed unfounded cases is not due to the deterioration of the criminal situation, but to the strengthening of supervisory work and more thorough protection of citizens’ rights.

Following the meeting, a set of additional measures aimed at improving the effectiveness of prosecutorial control was prepared.
