In Kursk explained how to safely change the phone number and not lose accounts

Russian Cyber Police warns that throwing away an old SIM card is a bad idea. If you do not terminate the contract with the operator officially, in a few months the number will return to circulation and will be sold to another person. The new owner will be able to easily recover passwords from all services associated with this number.

To avoid unpleasant consequences, two steps must be taken. First, update the data in all services: replace the old number with a new one in public services, banking applications, social networks, mail and marketplaces.

Second, terminate the contract with the operator. This can be done in the communication salon, through a mobile application or on the portal of public services. Only after this procedure will the number cease to be yours, and you disclaim responsibility for actions with it.

As an additional security measure, experts recommend enabling two-factor authentication wherever possible and not using the same passwords across different sites.
