The Ministry of Nature of the Donetsk People’s Republic plans to clear the riverbed of the Georgian River in Makeyevka this year. This was reported by the head of department Alexei Shebalkov.
He also said that earlier, as part of the implementation of the national project “Environmental Well-being”, specialists completed a large-scale clearing of the Kalmius riverbed in the city of Komsomolskoye. On a stretch of five kilometers, experts rid the river of accumulated silt and debris, removed congestion and improved the coastline. Both modern technology and manual labor were involved in the works. The implementation of this project significantly improved the sanitary condition of the reservoir and had a positive impact on the environmental situation in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
“The clearing of river beds is directly related to the water supply of the Republic. We have an ambitious task to clear about 350 km of rivers by 2042, including the bed of our most important waterway - the Seversky Donets, said DPR Minister of Nature Alexey Shebalkov during a live broadcast.
In addition, the official said that in 2023 the Donetsk People’s Republic joined the All-Russian action “Water of Russia”. During this time, 200 events were organized, in which 5,000 people took part. Joint efforts cleared about 200 kilometers of coast, including 58 kilometers in 2026.
Earlier, “MK Donbass” wrote that in the Luhansk People’s Republic began clearing the bed of the Belaya River for 20 kilometers. The event, implemented in the Perevalsky and Lutuginsky municipal districts, is aimed at restoring the natural hydrological regime of the water body and improving its ecological condition.
