According to the specialist, in the autumn most often on the roads and in the forest you can find large ungulates - deer, moose and roe deer.
- In September there is a race at the noble deer. Males actively move, lose their natural caution, so it is during this period that drivers need to be especially attentive. In September, there is a second peak in the number of accidents involving large ungulates, said A. Kozorez.
Especially careful drivers should be at dusk and at night. It is at this time that animals can suddenly come out on the roadway. Experts recommend reducing speed on sections of roads passing through forests and near wildlife habitats.
Last year, more than 5,000 wild animals died in an accident in Belarus. About 3 thousand of them were deer, another 111 - moose. At the same time, collision with elk is a particular danger to humans due to the size of the animal.
- Large ungulates today are numerous throughout the country. Noble deer is most likely to meet, for example, in the area of Belovezhskaya Forest. Moose is much more common. It is quite possible to meet him even near Minsk, the expert said.
There is another period of the year when encounters with large animals become more likely. We are talking about the end of April - the first half of June. At this time, young individuals begin to develop new territories and move in search of suitable habitats.
