The 10th International Greco-Roman Wrestling Tournament “Victory” was held in Moscow

Moscow hosted the 10th international Greco-Roman wrestling tournament “Victory”, which was attended by about a thousand young wrestlers aged five to 16 years, including athletes from Cuba, China, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. This was reported by the organizers of the event.

Athletes demonstrated on carpets amazing technique, character and will to win, giving fans a lot of spectacular fights. For the capital, this tournament has become a good tradition. It performs the most important unifying mission, gathering under its banners the strongest wrestling schools, said Deputy Mayor of Moscow Alexander Gorbenko.

According to him, such competitions are extremely important for the development of Greco-Roman wrestling not only in Russia, but also in the world: they create a competitive experience for athletes and motivate children to enroll in the section. The competitions were timed to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and were held in the Gymnastics Palace of Irina Viner. Thanks to the results of these meetings, the overall statistics of the project, which has existed since 2023, exceeded the mark of eight thousand participants.

The fights were followed by legends of world sports among the honored guests: the most titled wrestler of the Greco-Roman style in the world, five-time Olympic champion from Cuba Mikhain Lopez, three-time Alexander Karelin, two-time Roman Vlasov, president of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation Irina Viner, head of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili, as well as official representatives of the participating countries.

During the tournament, 35 sets of awards were played in five age groups. Foreign athletes won nine gold medals: three victories each on the account of wrestlers from Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan, two from Kazakhstan and one from Turkey. The national team of Kyrgyzstan became the third in the team competition among young men under 15 years old, Azerbaijan - the second among wrestlers under nine years old. In the team standings of three age groups out of five, the Moscow team won. The bronze in the category up to 92 kg among boys under 15 years old was won by Cuban Mikhail Lopez, the son of Mihain Lopez.

A key feature of the event was a large-scale cultural and interactive program. The guests saw the premiere of the play directed by Zarina Mukhitdinova, dedicated to the 155th anniversary of the legendary athlete Ivan Poddubny, whose role was played by actor and athlete Oleg Taktarov. In parallel, there was an art exhibition, a lecture hall on the creation of large sports arenas and a technological zone "Robot Corporation" with the opportunity to play chess with them. For young visitors, a meeting with Soyuzmultfilm characters was organized, and digital presentations about the culture, science and sports achievements of all participating countries were broadcast on media screens.

The competitions are organized by ANO “Victory League” with the support of the Moscow Department of Sports.

On October 3 and 4, a half marathon “My Capital” was held at the University Square, which gathered more than 17,000 people. The main event of Saturday was the competition on the “five” among professional track and field athletes, held for the first time in the handicap format: women started one minute and 17 seconds earlier than men. The winner was Vladimir Nikitin, the owner of the current national records at distances from 1.5 thousand to five thousand meters.

Also on October 1, the autumn season of the My Sports District project started in the capital: trainings will be held at more than 50 venues in 47 districts of the city.
