A commemoration rally dedicated to the death of Hero of the Soviet Union Stepan Kuzmich Nesterov took place in Nesterov. This was reported in the administration of the Nesterovsky municipal district.

Colonel Nesterov died on October 20, 1944 in the battles for East Prussia, personally leading the crossing of the Pissa River. His feat ensured the breakthrough of Soviet troops on the outskirts of the city of Stallupenen (now Nesterov).

Residents of the municipality, representatives of the administration and schoolchildren laid flowers at the monument to the Hero and honored the memory of the liberator warrior.

Earlier it was reported that the remains of 15 Soviet soldiers were reburied near Bagrationovsk.
