In Orel, doctors conducted a complex operation to remove a tumor in the patient’s stomach

Doctors of the Orel Oncological Dispensary successfully conducted a complex laparoscopic operation to remove the tumor in the patient's stomach. This is reported in the press service of the regional government with reference to the medical institution.

The patient turned to doctors with fever and signs of hidden internal bleeding. The therapist in the clinic appointed FGD, a tumor of 8 centimeters was found in the stomach. While waiting for the results of the biopsy, the situation has already become critical: emergency resuscitation, blood transfusions and a series of hospitalizations were required.

The patient's husband went to the oncology clinic with documents and test results. The doctors made an in-person appointment and, having assessed the patient's condition, did not wait for planned hospitalization, but took her to the hospital on the same day.

The operation was difficult. The tumor was in the area of small curvature of the stomach, where the surgeon has nowhere to "turn", and grew inside the lumen. It was necessary to remove it as carefully as possible, without violating the integrity.

Previously, formations of such sizes were removed only in an open way through a large incision, so that the doctor could comfortably work with his hands. But the doctors went the other way and did everything laparoscopically, that is, through small punctures.

“Going” inside through the optical trocar, the surgeon found that the tumor is not one – there are two. Both were completely removed. The operation took an hour and a half, and instead of a huge seam, only a cut of 3-4 centimeters remained. Histology has shown that the formations are benign.

More in-depth research will likely be needed. But the main stage is over. The most complex intervention was successful, and thanks to laparoscopy, recovery will take place as carefully as possible.
