Over the past three years, the number of students from China studying at universities in the Penza region has increased sixfold. Currently, 372 Chinese citizens receive education in the region, most of them – 332 people – study at Penza State University.
This was announced by the Vice-Governor of the Penza region Sergey Fedotov during a working meeting in China. According to the press service of the regional government, the negotiations were also attended by acting rector of the PSU Sergey Vasin and Secretary of the party Committee of the Beijing University of Foreign Languages Li Hai.
One of the main topics of discussion was the further development of educational cooperation between the Penza region and the PRC.
As Sergey Fedotov noted, most Chinese students studying undergraduate and graduate programs receive pedagogical education as part of joint projects of PSU with Chinese universities and colleges.
Among the partners of the university are Gannan Pedagogical University, Lianyungang Teacher Training College, Jining and Lanzhou City Universities.
Joint educational programs cover music, physical and adaptive physical culture, and economics. Last year, the first graduates of these programs received bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
In addition, PSU is considering the possibility of expanding cooperation with Chinese universities in the field of training medical personnel and computer specialists.
Chinese language learning is also developing. According to the vice-governor, students of the Pedagogical Institute of PSU are constantly mastering it. Chinese is already taught in three secondary schools in Penza.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to conclude a memorandum of cooperation between Penza State University and Beijing University of Foreign Languages.
Among the promising areas of interaction are joint student projects and competitions, short-term online programs in language disciplines and academic exchanges that allow students to spend a semester at a partner university.
Weeks of Russian-Chinese Culture are also discussed. Students will be able to come to each other’s universities for four to five days, attend classes, get acquainted with the culture of another country and practice a foreign language.
