In the Rostov region, another head of the district decided to resign

The head of the administration of the Belokalitvinsky district of the Rostov region Olga Melnikova decided to leave her post. She told about the decision on her personal page in social networks, without specifying the reasons for leaving.

In her address, the official thanked the residents of the district for the years of joint work.

- I have devoted more than 16 years to working on the Belokalitvinsk land. During this time, the district has become my native, and you are my countrymen, reliable assistants, good advisers, and sometimes constructive critics.

She began to lead the Belokalitvinsky district on March 4, 2012. Before that, Melnikova held the posts of inspector and chief state inspector of the Chamber of Control and Accounts of the Rostov region, and also worked as deputy head of the local administration.

During the years of her leadership, the district was in the center of a scandal associated with the reconstruction of the Mayakovsky Park in White Kalitva. About 300 million rubles were allocated for the renovation of public space. Despite significant funding, the improvement lasted several years and caused numerous complaints from the townspeople.

Residents were dissatisfied with the felling of trees, unfinished work and the lack of some of the promised facilities. In December 2024, the protest took an unusual form: some citizens brought funeral wreaths to the opening ceremony of the park.

The situation caused a public outcry and attracted the attention of Yuri Slyusar. After his visit to the park in the spring of 2025, local authorities promised to eliminate the identified shortcomings. Olga Melnikova reported on Saturdays and additional work on the territory.

The park was reopened on May 1. However, new appeals from residents soon appeared. They talked about damage to one of the terraces, as well as fountains and rides that did not work.

Melnikova was not the only district leader to announce her departure. Earlier, the decision to leave the post was announced by the head of the Millerovsky district Oleg Kovalenko, who held the post since January 20, 2022.

Prior to that, Kovalenko worked as an engineer, a specialist in the municipal service of the customer and head of the administration department of the Ust-Donetsk district. Subsequently, he became Deputy Head of Administration for Investments, Construction and Housing. From 2018 to 2022, he served as First Deputy Head of the Ust-Donetsk District.
