In September 2026, the level of air pollution in the Northern capital was assessed as elevated. This means that in some areas of the city there was a strong concentration of harmful substances. This became known from the data of the North-Western UGMS.
Specialists checked the air at special stations that are located in different parts of the city. They were looking for different substances in the air: nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and others.
In the Petrograd district at one of the stations, nitrogen dioxide exceeded the norm by 3 times. In Krasnoselsky district, carbon monoxide (carbon monoxide) exceeded the norm by 1.5 times. But suspended substances, sulfur dioxide, ammonia, formaldehyde and other tested substances in the air were within normal limits.
In the remaining areas – Frunze, Kalinin, Central, Vasileostrovsky, Moscow and Krasnogvardeysk – the air was clean. They didn't find any excesses.
Also, according to the Ministry, in September, the city standard index was 3, and the greatest repetition of concentrations for the month — 1.9%. This gave the rating of "increased".
